The people who were already here 100 000 years ago, were the San. They were hunter-gatherers who expressed their beliefs, rituals, outlook and activities in abundant rock art. Hardly more than  2 000 years ago, they were joined by agropastoralists, the Khoikhoi, who mainly moved down south along the West Coast.
